The Picture House, Uckfield
Recently voted the best independent cinema in the UK, The Picture House dates back to 1917 (in fact, there was a previous cinema on the same site). Having been in the same family's ownership for forty years we designed and oversaw the complete refurbishment of all three screens and the foyer and street-facing elevation.

Our aim was to retain some of the luxury and occasion of the golden age of cinema. The original building is a delightful confection of wealden features, and we carried this through to the interior in subtle and contemporary ways.
Throughout there is walnut joinery - from hand rails to doors and panelling - that gives the interior a warmth and depth to match the excellent sight lines and sound quality.
